How it started
When my son (often referred to as “The Kid”) was in kindergarten, I remember going to pick him up from the after-school program, upon arrival I initially didn’t see him and was baffled. The program director looked at me, then pointed at the corner and there was The Kid rolling around on the floor. She shrugged her shoulders and made me aware that he wouldn’t sit and play board games. We left, yet I was so angry in that moment that I sat in my car and began to cry. The sweetest voice ever, calmly said “Mommy, it’s going to be okay, don’t cry, it’s going to be okay.”
On this journey, I have been through so much with The Kid. I have had to advocate for him in school, at the store, on the playground even with my own family. At times I felt alone in explaining why I do the things I do for him, even embarrassed until I realized I needed to
